Mike Yin
Wyoming House Minority leader
Representative Yin has passed bipartisan legislation to increase childcare access, investments in education and attainable housing, and support for maternal healthcare. As Wyoming’s first Chinese American state lawmaker, Rep. Yin is committed to expanding civic participation and ensuring the next generation sees a future in Wyoming. He has served in the Wyoming legislature since 2019.
What is unique about your background or upbringing?
I was born in Atlanta, GA and the son of two immigrants. I attended Carnegie Mellon University for Computer Science.
Please share the most significant achievement of your career to date.
Helping to craft and pass a constitutional amendment splitting out different property taxes

What is your primary mission or goal as a state legislator?
I always say that I'm working to make sure that Wyoming is a place where you can grow up and get a good education, raise a family, and have the freedom to pursue your dreams.
What major challenge or obstacle are you currently focused on addressing?
Breaking the control of the "freedom caucus" in our state
What are a few non-work-related activities or hobbies that help you recharge?
Woodworking, pottery, and mountain biking
What are your top 3 platform priorities as an elected official?
Housing, healthcare, and education
What is the most valuable lesson you've learned in your role as a BiPOC state legislator in a leadership position?
You can't sit back if you want change to happen: you must lead.
What else would you like for us to know about you?
I really like a good bowl of pho.
